With the return of the A&E Network’s successful “Mad Men,” I thought we’d give it a nod by offering this little vintage number as our first Cocktail Dress Of The Week. Found over at the extremely well put together Posh Girl Vintage web site, this is a cocktail length party dress from the 1950′s is made of black sheer chiffon over white tulle.

Their website describes this dress as being very Audrey Hepburn but to us it is also very Natalie Portman. The circular pattern of the bodice and skirt offset and defined by the embroidery detail above the waist and below the bust give this piece an approachability to match it’s elegance. In style, it appears to be of the the same waters that some of the finer dresses found today at Anthropologie have flowed from.

What makes this dress so great is its’ versatility of personality. This dress enables the wearer to be alternately beautiful and yet demur, playful and flirty yet always classy. This is the dress made for that look back over the shoulder and the hands placed on bare shoulders.

We are also totally sure that this is also the dress of the Cosmo.

What do you think of this dress? We’d like to know.
